Facebook may support subscription based publishers
Campbell Brown, Facebook head of news partnerships, has said that Facebook is in early talks with several news publishers about how it social media platform can support subscription business models.
TheStreet had earlier reported that Facebook plans to launch a subscription-based news product, citing comments by Brown at a conference.
According to TheStreet, Facebook will start the initial testing in October. The feature will likely be create a paywall on Facebook’s Instant Articles from publishers and direct readers to a publisher’s page subscribe for digital content.
Citing Brown at the Digital Publishing Innovation Summit in New York, TheStreet said, The idea for a paywall is based on premium and metered plans and has been in the works for a while.
Facebook has started rolling out new tool which enable publishers to compare their contents performance on Instant Articles with the ones on their websites.
